Marcus Rashford’s return to training has given Manchester United a major injury boost ahead of their Europa League matchup with Sevilla on Thursday.
The England international has scored a staggering 27 goals in 47 games for the Red Devils this season, but has been forced to sit out the team’s last two games due to a groin injury suffered on April 8 against Everton.
Rashford was expected to miss “a few games,” according to the team, but he was spotted practicing with the team on Wednesday, indicating that he had recovered more quickly than anticipated.
United are preparing to play Sevilla in the second leg of their quarterfinal match, which is tied 2-2 after the first leg at Old Trafford.
The news will be a major boost for Erik ten Hag, whose team has managed Rashford’s absence as best they could with a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest after their European home leg ended in a stalemate.
But after seeing his team implode late at Old Trafford a week ago as own goals from Tyrell Malacia and Harry Maguire balanced out their dominance for the majority of the game, the Dutchman will be eager to gain a success in Seville.
Before the session on Wednesday, Ten Hag received more good news than only the Rashford announcement.
Luke Shaw, who just agreed to a new four-year contract with the team, was present, according to a statement on the United website. Shaw has been out since April 5.
The day before the crucial European encounter, Marcel Sabitzer made his return from missing Sunday’s game against Nottingham Forest after picking up an injury sustained in the warm-up.
Malacia was also involved in Wednesday training session.
