According to Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, Marcus Rashford’s injury during Saturday’s 2-0 win against Everton “does not look well”.
The 25-year-old England international suffered an apparent groin injury towards the end of the match, as seen on TV pictures of him walking slowly up the tunnel afterward.
Despite Ten Hag’s initial response of “You are a doctor?” when asked if the damage looked serious, he later expressed his concerns and criticized United’s schedule.
He pointed out that the team had played a late Sunday game last week and an early Saturday one in this round of fixtures, which could have contributed to Rashford’s injury.
“We have to wait. He doesn’t look well,” said Ten Hag of Rashford’s condition. “All science and research tell you players need a certain time to recover. It is also part of the schedule that we are now finding ourselves in this situation and now we can only pray he is not dropping off.”
Ten Hag admitted that he could have substituted Rashford once United had their second goal 19 minutes from time, but chose not to do so because he wanted his leading scorer to get more game-time alongside the returning Anthony Martial.
