According to Real Madrid, the most recent instance of racial abuse directed towards Winger, Vinicius Jr. has been reported to the Spanish prosecutor’s office as a ‘hate crime’.
In the second half of Real’s La Liga game against Valencia on Sunday, Vinicius, who was furious, complained the Valencia fans to the referee for racially abusing him.
The 22-year-old Brazilian who was eventually dismissed from the game for violent behavior, declared “La Liga belongs to racists” after the game.
In a statement released on Monday, Real Madrid stated that it “considers that such attacks also constitute a hate crime“.
Prosecutors in Spain will now choose whether to launch a criminal probe.
Real Madrid expressed its “strongest revulsion” and condemned the actions taken against Vinicius Junior.
This season, Vinicius has endured numerous instances of racist abuse.
La Liga urged fans and the people involved to submit any pertinent video, saying it would look into the matter and take “appropriate legal action” if a hate crime was discovered.
Valencia said police had “identified a fan who made racist gestures” and that the “club are also working along with the police to confirm the identity of any other potential offenders“.
The club added:
“Valencia CF have proceeded to open a disciplinary case, will apply the maximum level of severity, including a lifetime stadium ban against the fans involved, and is working closely together with the authorities.”
