During Sevilla’s Europa League game against PSV Eindhoven, a fan ran onto the field and attacked Sevilla goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic by throwing a punch at him. However, Dmitrovic was able to defend himself and wrestle the attacker to the ground. Luckily, the goalkeeper was not hurt in the incident. Both teams’ players quickly surrounded the attacker, and he was led off the field to the sound of jeers from the crowd.
Dmitrovic shared with reporters after the game that the attacker had pushed him from behind before trying to punch him. Though he admitted that he had never punched anyone before, he also stated that he knew how to defend himself.
Despite the attack and losing 2-0 to PSV Eindhoven, Sevilla still managed to advance 3-2 on aggregate. This disturbing incident highlights the need for increased security measures at sporting events to ensure the safety of players and fans.
