In the summer of 2022, Liverpool bid farewell to Sadio Mane, a talismanic player who was instrumental in their Champions League and Premier League title-winning squads.
Mane had scored 120 goals for the club in six years before departing for Bayern Munich. Since then, Liverpool has struggled to maintain consistency without him.
However, left-back Robertson believes that there are players at Anfield who can step up and make a similar impact when they are fully fit.
Robertson explained in an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live
“I have had a fantastic relationship with Sadio (Mane), we played together down the left-hand side for five years. Mane was a joy to play with, and we linked up really well. I helped him when we are going forward, and he also helped me when we tracked back”.
“When Mane left, I was a little gutted because of the relationship we had built. But I also believe that we have players who can play in that position too. Darwin (Nunez), Diogo (Jota), and Luiz (Diaz) can play there. Even Cody (Gakpo) has played there too” Robertson said
Robertson acknowledges that injuries have affected Liverpool’s performance, but he is optimistic that they will perform better when all their players are fully fit.
He notes that Mane was a Liverpool legend, but he wanted to leave, and Liverpool wishes him all the best. Robertson and Mane played 203 games together for Liverpool, and the former provided nine assists for the latter, forming a devastating partnership down the left flank for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
