West Ham’s Midfielder, Declan Rice, who has been attracting interest from Arsenal and Manchester United, has received official permission to leave the club, according to chairman David Sullivan.
Following West Ham’s triumph in the Europa Conference League against Fiorentina in Prague, the England international hinted at the possibility of extending his tenure at the London Stadium.
However, Chairman Sullivan has now confirmed that Rice will indeed be leaving, as he has already expressed a strong desire to pursue new opportunities.
During an interview with talkSPORT, Sullivan stated:
“We made a promise to him that he could pursue his ambitions elsewhere. He has firmly set his sights on departing. It’s difficult to find a player who has demonstrated more commitment to our club this season.”
Sullivan further acknowledged that moving forward, West Ham will need to secure a suitable replacement or potentially multiple replacements. He emphasized, “We cannot retain a player who no longer wishes to be here.”
Arsenal currently stands as the frontrunner in the race to secure Rice’s services for the upcoming season.
Reports suggest that the Gunners have been diligently preparing a substantial £90 million deal, which they hope will outmatch Manchester United’s pursuit.
Additionally, German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have also expressed interest, with manager Thomas Tuche being an admirer of the West Ham captain.
Nevertheless, Rice is reportedly inclined to remain in England, particularly as he is already settled in London, providing Arsenal with an advantageous position in the transfer competition.
