Arsenal came from two goals down to claim a 2-2 draw against Wolfsburg in the first leg of their Women’s Champions League semifinal in Germany.
Arsenal’s quest for a second European championship was maintained when striker Stina Blackstenius equalized in the second half after putting in a relentless performance.
The visitors defense made a few errors, which let Wolfsburg grab a well-deserved 2-0 lead after just 24 minutes, nearly punishing the Gunners for a terrible first half.
Ewa Pajor, who leads Goalscorer chart scored, scored her eighth goal in the Champions League this year when her dash into the area went unnoticed and she calmly slid it past Manuela Zinsberger.
Following Sveindis Jane Jonsdottir’s close-range strike for Wolfsburg’s second goal thanks to Rafaelle Souza’s poor mistake, the Arsenal defender made apologies with a thunderous header right before halftime.
Following that goal, Arsenal improved in the second half, limiting Wolfsburg’s opportunities and increasing their danger at the opposite end.
It paid off when Blackstenius was set up by Victoria Pelova, and Arsenal now have a chance to advance to the final when they return to Emirates Stadium on Monday, May 1.
