Crystal Palace have announced the termination of Patrick Vieira’s contract as manager following a 12-game winless streak.
The club has failed to secure a victory so far this year, with their most recent loss being against Brighton in a 1-0 defeat.
Despite sitting at 12th place in the Premier League standings, they are merely three points ahead of Bournemouth, who hold 18th place and possess a game in hand.
Chairman Steve Parish expressed regret in making this challenging decision and highlighted that recent performances have placed the team in a vulnerable position.
The club believes a change is necessary to increase their chances of maintaining their Premier League status.
Vieira, a 46-year-old Frenchman, was appointed at the start of the 2021-22 season and led the team to a 12th-placed finish, where his attacking style was highly regarded.
However, this season, Crystal Palace has struggled to score with only 21 goals in 27 games, the fourth-lowest in the league.
In addition, before their loss to Brighton, the team had three consecutive games without a shot on target.
Palace has only gained five points from a potential 33, which is the lowest of any Premier League team in 2023.
Osian Roberts, Kristian Wilson, and Said Aigoun, three members of Vieira’s coaching staff, have also left the club. The process of appointing a new manager has already started.
As the Premier League’s bottom nine teams are only separated by five points, Crystal Palace will face all eight of their relegation rivals in their last ten games of the season.
Parish acknowledged Vieira’s significant impact on the club and thanked him and his team for their service. Palace’s next game will be against Arsenal, Vieira’s former club, on Sunday.
