Ellynora, the singer who was tasked with performing the English national anthem prior to a meeting with Italy in Naples, has issued an apology for her performance.
Her rendition of ‘God Save the King‘ was described as error-strewn, with supporters and players left confused by her performance.
Ellynora missed the opening note and fiddled with her earpiece, eventually breaking down in tears. She has since explained that there were technical difficulties with her earpiece and that she tried her best to adjust her singing to catch up with the anthem in the stadium.
She had this to say
“I feel incredibly disappointed about what happened during the national anthem performance. I had put a lot of effort into preparing for it and wanted it to be flawless, but unfortunately, there were technical issues that were beyond my control. I want to apologize to all the England fans who were present at the stadium and watching on TV. I’m truly sorry for any disappointment or offense caused”.
“As a pop artist, performing the national anthem was a new experience for me, and I was honored to have been asked to do it. Despite rehearsing the anthem twice the day before and three times on the night, I encountered an issue with my earpiece during the actual performance. The music stopped and started again, and I was hearing it twice, which made it difficult to stay in sync with the anthem”.
“I did my best to overcome the problem, but unfortunately, it was too late. I understand how important the national anthem is to England fans, and I never intended to be disrespectful. I hope people will understand that the technical difficulties were out of my control and that I did my best to handle the situation.”
Despite the pre-match issues, England went on to win the game 2-1 thanks to goals from Declan Rice and Harry Kane.
