Gareth Southgate’s team secured a 2-1 victory in Naples, condemning Italy to their first home defeat in European qualifying since 1999.
The highlight of the night was England’s captain, Kane who scored his 54th international goal from a penalty kick, surpassing Wayne Rooney to become the top scorer in England’s history.
This goal, along with Declan Rice’s early opener, helped England achieve their first victory on Italian soil since 1961.
Although Italy responded strongly in the second half and managed to score a goal through Mateo Retegui, they were unable to equalize even after Luke Shaw was sent off 10 minutes before full-time.
The win marks a perfect start to England’s Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, while Italy is left to deal with the disappointment of their first home European qualifying defeat in 24 years.
