Bournemouth secured an impressive victory over Liverpool, thanks to a penalty miss by Mohamed Salah.
The result helped the Cherries climb out of the relegation zone, while also damaging Liverpool’s chances of qualifying for the next season’s Champions League.
Philip Billing scored the game’s only goal, punishing Liverpool’s poor defending. Despite having chances to equalize, Liverpool failed to break down Bournemouth’s defense, with substitute Diogo Jota and Virgil van Dijk both being denied.
Salah had the opportunity to level the score from the penalty spot, but he blazed it wide, much to the delight of Bournemouth’s fans. The loss prevented Liverpool from moving up to fourth place in the league table.
Liverpool’s away form has been patchy this season, with only three wins in 13 league games on the road.
The defeat to Bournemouth was a step backwards for a team that faces a tough challenge to stay in the Champions League when they play Real Madrid, hoping to overturn a 5-2 deficit.
With their next Premier League game postponed and the international break looming, Liverpool will be off the stage for three weeks.
When they return, they face difficult away matches against Manchester City and Chelsea, followed by a home game against leaders Arsenal.
