After making his long-awaited return to training, Christian Eriksen has provided Manchester United with a significant boost ahead of their upcoming match against Everton on Saturday.
The 31-year-old has been out of action since January when he sustained an ankle injury during a 3-1 FA Cup victory over Reading, with ligament damage following a forceful challenge from Andy Carroll leading to an initial prognosis of absence until the end of April.
Last month, however, the Denmark international hinted at a potential earlier return after discarding his protective boot. Now, he has been seen participating in full training at Carrington, much to the delight of manager Erik ten Hag and United supporters alike.
It remains to be seen whether Eriksen will be fit enough to play in the upcoming clash against the Toffees at the Theatre of Dreams, as Ten Hag is aware of the need to cautiously reintroduce the former Tottenham playmaker to avoid any risk of further setbacks.
Nevertheless, Eriksen’s return has come at a crucial time for United, who are set to face Sevilla in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final next week, before taking on Brighton in the FA Cup semi-final at the end of April.
With United currently holding on to fourth place, Eriksen is sure to have a significant role to play until the end of the season.
Earlier this week, Ten Hag stated that the former Inter Milan midfielder was nearing a return, and his presence back on the training pitch is a positive sign for United as they head into a critical period of their season. Ten Hag is expected to give an update on Eriksen later today during his press conference.
