The 39-year-old announced his retirement via Instagram after ending his time with Togolese club, AC Semmasi, whom he joined in July 2021.
Adebayor began his football journey at AC Merlan Lome before moving to FC Metz’s youth squad in France at just 15 years old.
He then went on to play for Monaco in 2003, where he emerged as one of the top young forwards in Europe.
Adebayor later played for Arsenal, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Tottenham, Crystal Palace, Istanbul Basaksehir, Kayserispor, Olimpia Asuncion, and AC Semmasi, scoring a total of 207 goals in 593 appearances, including 97 in the Premier League.
Adebayor’s career was glittering, winning the Copa del Rey with Real Madrid in 2011 and the African Footballer of the Year prize in 2008.
He is also Togo’s all-time top goalscorer with 26 goals in 65 appearances.
Adebayo expressed gratitude to his fans for their support throughout his career and excitement for what the future holds in his retirement.
