Former Big Brother Titans housemate, Jeni O, has revealed some intriguing insights about Nigerian influencers.
In an Instagram story post, Jeni shed light on how these influencers often lead deceptive lives in order to please their social media audience.
Jeni disclosed that many influencers find themselves drowning in debt due to the overwhelming pressure to meet people’s extravagant expectations.
She emphasized that influencers are no longer able to be authentic and true to themselves because of these unrealistic demands, which she finds incredibly frustrating.
Furthermore, she pointed out that influencers residing in cities like Lagos even resort to borrowing money in order to portray a certain lifestyle and fit in with their peers.
She wrote
“Nigerian Influencing consists of fake ass life. Everything is so fake. Post a real picture it’s an issue. Can’t dress a certain way outside because you don’t want to appear somehow. Some of your faves are in debt trying to keep up with this high ass expectation you all have put for them. Nothing is real It’s only in Lagos I knew you could rent anything to look a certain way.”
“Being an influencer… Is being able to influence every day PEOPLE. I’m annoyed. Everyday people are not doing photoshoots every second, everyday people are not wearing full beats to the gym, everyday people are not overdressing to the grocery store.. I can actually go on and on and on. Lmao I don’t know what kind of unrealistic expectations you all set Or are you all not seeing your mates abroad. For a country that already seems like it’s fictional must the indutry be a fantasy land as well?”
