Liverpool’s manager, Jurgen Klopp, has been charged by the Football Association (FA) for comments made about referee Paul Tierney following his team’s 4-3 win over Tottenham on Sunday.
Klopp had expressed regret over the headlines created by his comments, where he suggested that Tierney had something “against” his team.
The FA has accused Klopp of “improper conduct” and alleged that his comments imply bias, question the integrity of the referee, and bring the game into disrepute.
Klopp has until Friday, 5 May to respond to the charge. It is important for all individuals involved in football to exercise restraint when speaking about officials in public, as comments that could be construed as offensive or personal can damage the reputation of the game and those involved in it.
