Frank Lampard is optimistic about Chelsea’s chances of overturning a 2-0 deficit against Real Madrid and advancing to the semi-finals of the Champions League.
However, in order to do so, his players will need to achieve something they haven’t managed in their last four games – score a goal.
Despite suffering a second consecutive defeat under Lampard’s interim management, with Ben Chilwell’s red card leaving them with 10 men in the first leg of their quarter-final against Real Madrid, Lampard believes that Stamford Bridge can be the setting for a “special” night of football.
“Special things happen at Stamford Bridge, we have to believe.” Lampard said
Chelsea’s task is to score at least twice in the return leg next Tuesday, a feat they have not accomplished in their previous four matches across all competitions.
This run of form has seen Lampard endure 13 defeats in his last 16 matches as manager, including spells with Everton and Chelsea this season.
