At halftime, Harry Maguire took over for Raphael Varane, and late in the game, Martinez joined his center-back partner.
Along with Bruno Fernandes, who is suspended for the second game, the duo join leading scorer Marcus Rashford on the injury list.
After the game, Erik ten Hag was asked about the injuries by BT Sport and he had this to say:
“We have seen with Martinez, there was no opponent involved, so it doesn’t look great. Varane is also something we need to watch, though”.
