According to a recent rumor, Mason Greenwood has informed friends that he is “finished” playing for Manchester United and doesn’t anticipate returning to first team for selection anymore.
The England Foward had his criminal accusations against him dropped, although he does not anticipate playing for the team again.
After Greenwood was initially detained in January 2022, charges of attempted rape, assault resulting in actual bodily harm, and controlling and coercive behavior were later dropped, sparking discussion about a potential return to football.
The club is currently consulting among itself on what to do with the 21-year-old, but according to a story in The Sun, he believes he won’t ever play for United again.
According to a source who spoke to the publication, Greenwood believes he is “finished” at Old Trafford and won’t play for Manchester United “ever again.”
He recognizes that the predicament is “his own doing,” but it is reported that the realization has left him feeling dissatisfied since he wants to resume playing.
In January 2022, Greenwood was detained after allegations backed up by video evidence appeared on social media; she was later detained again that November for violating her bail terms.
He was set to stand trial over his charges in November this year before they were dropped, with United conducting an internal investigation in the time since.
Reports in February claimed there was a split internally at the club regarding Greenwood’s future, with some suggesting they owed him a duty of care as a result of his long association with Man Utd.
Since then, however, there has been no update or indication that Greenwood is any closer to being reintegrated.
Greenwood is still contracted to Manchester United till 2025.
