Paris Saint Germain Goalkeeper, Sergio Rico has recovered from a coma that he fell into following a horse riding accident three weeks ago.
The incident occurred during an annual pilgrimage in the El Rocio region of Huelva, Spain in May, where Rico, 29, reportedly suffered a serious mishap involving a mule cart and a horse.
His wife, Alba Silva has confirmed that he is now awake and slowly recovering at a hospital in Seville.
Speaking to Telecinco, Alba Silva said:
“[He’s] taking small steps forward and the truth is that we already see the light a little more.”
She added: “Little by little he is recovering and I knew from the beginning that he was going to get better because he is a champion.”
Prior to joining PSG, Rico had a loan spell at Fulham during the 2018-19 season, followed by a season-long loan at PSG before signing permanently in September 2020.
He has since made 29 appearances for the French club.
