Joao Cancelo reportedly plugged in his earbuds at a team meeting, prompting Pep Guardiola to advise Manchester City to sell the full-back, according to reports.
At a meeting in January, Cancelo reportedly slouched to the ground with his headphones on while Guardiola addressed the team because he would not pay attention.
Soon after, the City manager told Txiki Begiristain, director of football, to offload him, and before the end of the month, he was headed to Bayern Munich.
Cancelo was a regular for City’s first squad before being benched after the World Cup in 2022.
Before being loaned to Bayern, the Portugal international reportedly did not handle being dropped well.
The 29-year-old had been targeted by Barcelona in January, but coach Xavi claimed last month that City vetoed the transfer, which caused him to sign with Bayern.
An option to buy him out was included in the loan agreement, but the German club is unlikely to exercise it this summer.
The former Inter and Benfica Defender is not expected to return to City again and may still join Barca as loan negotiations for Camp Nou are said to be in progress.
