Juventus suffered a devastating 4-1 loss to lowly Empoli in the Serie A, a result that was compounded by a 10-point deduction due to a new ruling on their transfer dealings.
As a result, their chances of qualifying for the Champions League appear slim.
Empoli’s Francesco Caputo scored two goals and Sebastiano Luperto added another just after halftime, giving them a 3-0 lead.
Juve’s Federico Chiesa managed to pull one back with five minutes remaining, but Roberto Piccoli secured Empoli’s victory in stoppage time.
Despite the setback, Juve’s coach Massimiliano Allegri emphasized the need to regroup ahead of their upcoming match against Milan, acknowledging the six points at stake.
The game started with a promising start for Juve, with Arkadiusz Milik hitting the crossbar from a corner and Federico Gatti scoring, albeit disallowed due to a foul.
However, things unraveled quickly for the team as Empoli was awarded a penalty for Milik’s foul, which Caputo converted, putting the hosts ahead in the 18th minute.
Despite first-half opportunities from Dusan Vlahovic and Gleison Bremer, Juventus couldn’t close the gap, and Empoli maintained their persistence in the second half, scoring another goal just two minutes in.
Juve couldn’t muster a response, and Empoli sealed the victory in stoppage time with a goal from forward Piccoli, who easily maneuvered past three Juve defenders.
With this Defeat, Juve remains at 59 points, one point behind AS Roma, who drew 2-2 with Salernitana in their match.
Meanwhile, AC Milan currently occupies fourth position with two games remaining.
