Newcastle have secured a spot in the Champions League for the first time in 20 years after a goalless draw against Leicester, who are now facing the threat of relegation that is beyond their control.
Despite dominating the match, Eddie Howe’s team failed to score the winning goal, hitting the post three times.
However, their efforts were enough to secure their return to Europe’s top-tier competition next season.
Newcastle currently sit four points ahead of Liverpool in fifth place, going into the final day of the season on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Leicester remain in the relegation zone, two points away from safety.
Throughout the game, the hosts had 78% of the possession and struggled to make a breakthrough.
However, Callum Wilson nearly scored when he hit the post and then saw his follow-up effort cleared off the line by Wilfred Ndidi.
Just before half-time, Miguel Almiron also hit the post. In the second half, visiting goalkeeper Daniel Iversen made an acrobatic save to deny Alexander Isak.
Newcastle travel to Chelsea for their final game of the Premier league season on Sunday.
