Former Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko has advised patience with Mykhailo Mudryk, the young winger who joined Chelsea in January from Shakhtar Donetsk for £89m.
Mudryk has played six Premier League games, contributing one assist and no goals, but Shevchenko believes he is part of an ambitious project and that the decision to sign him was down to the club’s belief in his talent.
Mudryk is on a very long contract, which is unusual, and Shevchenko encourages the club to invest in their future by believing in Mudryk’s talent and giving him time to develop.
“While the Premier League is typically focused on immediate results, I think it’s important to give this player time to prove himself over the next eight years. The club needs to show patience and have confidence in his abilities”.
“Drawing from my own experiences playing in Milan and London, I found that immersing myself in the culture and learning the language helped me communicate better with my teammates and adjust to my new surroundings. This approach could also help the player acclimate more quickly to a new country, which is crucial for success.”
Shevchenko also advises Mudryk to immerse himself in the culture and language of his new home to acclimate quicker. Shevchenko acknowledges the current Ukrainian squad is in transition, with a lack of depth in the talent pool, but he is confident that with time, Ukraine can bring through their new generation.
