Taty Castellanos, on loan from MLS club New York City FC, was the hero for Girona as he scored all four goals in their dominant 4-2 victory over a lackluster Real Madrid side in La Liga.
Castellanos was a constant threat to Real Madrid’s defense and his clinical finishing secured the win for the league newcomers.
He opened the scoring early on with a well-placed header following a well-constructed counter-attack, before doubling his side’s lead by nutmegging the backup keeper Andriy Lunin under pressure from two Madrid defenders.
Despite a goal from Vinicius before half-time, Real Madrid were unable to mount a comeback as Castellanos added two more goals in the second half, leaving the reigning champions stunned.
Castellanos was substituted with 20 minutes remaining and Girona comfortably saw out the rest of the game, despite a late goal from Lucas Vasquez for Real Madrid.
While La Liga may now be out of reach for Los Blancos, performances like this will leave their fans disappointed.
