David de Gea experienced one of the most upsetting moments while wearing the Manchester United jersey on a record-breaking night for him.
At the London Stadium, the Red Devils got off to a strong start, but they fell down after just 27 minutes when Said Benrahma’s errant shot miraculously hit the back of the net.
Benrahma made a solo run at goal after Luke Shaw gave the ball away, but Man United players swarmed him.
The ball slid beneath De Gea arms despite the fact that it appeared to be an easy save for the Spaniard.
The mistake cost Man United dearly as West Ham won 1-0, dealing a crushing blow to their hopes of making the Champions League for the upcoming season.
Ten Hag defended his goalie while pointing out to any skeptics De Gea’s performance during the season.
Ten Hag answered when asked if De Gea’s error was terrible:
“Yes, but individual mistakes are a part of football and as a team you have to deal with it and you have to bounce back because it’s a team sport”.
“He has kept the most clean sheets this season (15), which we accomplished as a team”.
“These things can happen in sport, but everyone must take responsibility”. Ten Hag said
It was his sixth blunder since the start of last season that resulted in the goal and concerns has been raised about De Gea’s performance despite his near 12-year stint at Old Trafford.
