Luke Shaw acknowledged that he “can’t explain” his last-second handball against Brighton, which cost Manchester United a point.
Shaw’s arm appeared to be up in the air as he attempted to jump, leading officials to conclude that he handled the ball at a corner.
After the game, the English defender expressed regret, telling Sky Sports,
“Last minute, last action really. I felt a small nudge, but the hand is obviously inappropriately placed”.
“I take full responsibility for my actions; it cost us the game, but it is difficult”.
“I still don’t understand the reason why my hand is raised there. I felt a nudge; perhaps that will help me raise my hand, but it shouldn’t be there”.
“The free kick was never an offense even before the corner. I’m not looking for an explanation, but the foul that resulted in the corner shouldn’t have been given”. He said.
Brighton’s Alexis Mc Callister converted the resulting Penalty and earned the Seagulls all three points in the game.
Despite the defeat, United is on course to finish in the top four.
Erik Ten Hag’s men are in fourth-place with five games remaining.
Before facing Manchester City in the FA Cup final, they will play West Ham, Wolves, Bournemouth, Chelsea, and Fulham to finish their league schedule.
