Former Big Brother Naija contestant, Pere Egbi better known as Pere has expressed his concerns about the hate that Igbos face from other ethnic groups in Nigeria.
He took to his official Twitter page to share his thoughts on the matter, emphasizing that he himself is not Igbo but still witnesses the animosity directed towards Igbo people both online and offline.
Pere recounted an incident where a politician boldly stated to his face that an Igbo person could never lead Nigeria. He admitted that he was so provoked by this remark that he almost resorted to violence, but thanks to Jesus for helping him control his anger.
Tribalism, Pere argued, is a significant problem in Nigeria that needs to be addressed and resolved.
In his tweet, he wrote, “The hate against the Igbos in Nigeria is real. I AM NOT even Igbo or Yoruba or Hausa, and I feel for them. Someone who is in politics once told me that an Igbo person can never rule Nigeria. If Jesus hadn’t held my right hand that day, I would have slapped him. I also see a lot of online hate towards the Igbo tribe, even coming from people within the political space. We have a serious problem in Nigeria, and we need to honestly confront it. This is unfair.”
Pere’s message speaks on the genuine concern he holds for the discrimination faced by the Igbo community in Nigeria.
He believes that it is essential for the country to acknowledge and actively work towards eradicating such prejudices.
