Champions League matches may eventually be held on American soil, according to UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin.
With fans anxious to see their idols in action on the continent, Europe’s top club championship consistently draws a large international viewership.
Ceferin acknowledges that given this desire and the significant financial benefits at stake, the United States may be selected in the future to host games.
Contrary to what some may believe, he emphasizes that such a move would not be a money-making ploy because UEFA is willing to do everything in its power to expand the global game.
“It is Possible that the Champions League will be played in the US“, Ceferin has said on the Men in Blazers podcast.
“We started talking about it, but then the World Cup happened, the Euro in 2024, Istanbul this year, London in ’24, and Munich in ’25. Let’s see what happens next”
“Indeed that is conceivable. These days, football is hugely popular in the US”.
“And I think they will follow European football much like European basketball fans follow the NBA”.
Along with its neighbors Canada and Mexico, the United States is already scheduled to co-host the 2026 World Cup.
They will also host the 2024 Copa America and is expected to submit a proposal for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
