At Wembley, Manchester United’s players celebrated their victory over Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final, securing their sixth League Cup win, behind only Liverpool (nine) and Manchester City (eight) in the competition’s history.
First-half goals from Brazil midfielder Casemiro and an own goal from Dutch defender Sven Botman secured the Red Devils’ first trophy in six years.
After the game, Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes expressed his delight and hunger for more trophies, stating that “we want more and need more“. Fernandes went on to say that while he was satisfied to win the Carabao Cup, it was not enough for a club of Manchester United’s stature.
This win marked the first trophy for Manchester United since the 2016-17 season, when they won both the EFL Cup and Europa League under Jose Mourinho.
The club is still pursuing more domestic and European honours this season, as they are currently third in the Premier League table, eight points behind leaders Arsenal with 14 games remaining.
United will face West Ham at Old Trafford in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Wednesday (19:45 GMT), and Erik ten Hag’s side will face Real Betis in the last 16 of the Europa League.
