Manchester City’s bid of £90m for captain Declan Rice has been rejected by West Ham. The offer from City, who recently won the treble, reportedly included an initial payment of £80m but fell short of the £100m valuation set by the Hammers.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are also expected to make a third bid for the 24-year-old midfielder from England. West Ham had already turned down Arsenal’s second proposal, which consisted of an initial payment of £75m spread across four installments, along with an additional £15m in add-ons.
Rice’s current contract with West Ham is set to expire in 2024, although there is an option for a one-year extension until the summer of 2025.
Following West Ham’s victory in the Europa Conference League against Fiorentina earlier this month, chairman David Sullivan expressed his belief that Rice would likely leave the club this summer, stating he was “99%” sure of it.
Despite securing a deal for Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea worth £25m, Manchester City’s loss of Ilkay Gundogan to Barcelona has increased their eagerness to strengthen their midfield options. Declan Rice is viewed as the ideal candidate by City manager Pep Guardiola.
