Alex Baena of Villarreal claims that after allegations that he “wished harm” on Federico Valverde’s family, he and his family got death threats.
Following Saturday’s 3-2 La Liga victory in Madrid, Baena reported being assaulted to the police on Sunday.
The 21-year-old was allegedly assaulted on his way to the squad bus after the game, according to Villarreal.
The midfielder for Real Madrid, Valverde, is claimed to be the perpetrator, according to numerous reports.
Baena stated on Monday, without specifying Valverde, “Last Saturday, I was assaulted by a colleague from this profession after the game against Real Madrid ended.”
“Following the incident, there were certain remarks that were made public that were likely made by his entourage and claimed that I had wished his family harm”.
No proof of the actions alleged to me has since been published, and this cannot be otherwise.
Villarreal released the following statement on Sunday:
“Alex Baena of Villarreal CF was assaulted last night when he was walking to the team bus following the match against Real Madrid CF at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
“In response to this circumstance, the player has chosen to report the perpetrator to the police.
Once more, Villarreal CF declares that it “rejects any act of violence, firmly accepts the player’s account of what happened, and will stand by him throughout this process.”
Valverde and Real Madrid have not yet responded.
