Mateu Alemany, Barcelona’s director of football, will step down soon after managing the team’s summer recruitment activity.
Alemany notified president Joan Laporta, according to Barca, “of his intention to take a new path in his career.”
According to Fabrizio Romano, Aston Villa has made Alemany an offer with the intention of hiring him to work with Unai Emery.
Alemany was charged with making the necessary cutbacks to the starting lineup in order to make room for some of Barcelona’s new summer acquisitions.
He’s been described as a “killer” and will assist in running the Blaugrana’s affairs this summer before leaving.
Antonio Cordon who most recently worked for Real Betis, has been mentioned as a potential successor.
The club has stated that they will alter their “football executive structure” and make their adjustments public after Alemany departs.
