Dortmund claimed the top spot in the Bundesliga with a resounding 4-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, thanks to Donyell Malen’s first Bundesliga brace.
In addition to Malen’s goals, Dortmund goals came from Jude Bellingham and Mats Hummels to secure their ninth straight home victory, a new club record.
Elsewhere, Bayern Munich’s title aspirations were dealt a blow as they were defeated 3-1 by Mainz earlier in the day, allowing Dortmund to move ahead of them with three points.
Ludovic Ajorque, Leandro Barreiro, and Aaron Caricol scored three goals within 14 minutes to surprise Thomas Tuchel’s team.
Bayern initially went ahead in the first half with Sadio Mane’s header, assisted by Joao Cancelo. Yann Sommer, Bayern’s goalkeeper, failed to hold onto Lee Jae-sung’s attempt, allowing Ajorque to equalize for Mainz with a close-range header.
Barreiro received Karim Onisiwo’s pass and put the ball past Sommer before Caricol sealed the victory by scoring into the bottom corner after Andreas Hanche-Olsen’s lay-off.
