Barcelona’s attempts to sign Lionel Messi and Gavi seem to have failed as their financial restructuring proposals were turned down.
The Catalan giants have been struggling financially, which has been well-documented.
Messi left the club as a free agent in 2021 as a result of these problems.
Additionally, they haven’t been successful in getting Ronald Araujo, Sergi Roberto, and Gavi new contracts.
The club allegedly needs to slash costs by about €200 million, with other sources speculating that the amount might be as high as €350 million.
Barca had hoped that La Liga would work with them to help balance the books at Camp Nou.
The Blaugrana have set up a number of ‘levers’ that will enable them to raise much-needed finances and adhere to Financial Fair Play standards.
Sport asserts, however, that La Liga has rejected Barcelona’s initial “feasibility plan,” which called for them to roll out cost-cutting measures over a three-year period.
Spanish top-flight president Javier Tebas has made it clear that those in Catalunya must work more quickly in order to adopt the same rules as their domestic opponents.
Without an agreement, Barca may struggle to sign players they wish to commit to long-term deals, such teenage superstar Gavi, as well as struggle to sign new players.
And Lionel Messi’s potential summer return to Camp Nou may not happen anymore due to this latest development.
