Reports suggest that Manchester United are planning to prevent Harry Maguire from joining Newcastle on loan, but they are open to discussing a permanent transfer.
Despite being the club captain, Maguire has fallen out of favor at Old Trafford and made only 16 Premier League appearances during the 2022-23 season.
Several clubs, including Newcastle, Tottenham, and Aston Villa, have shown interest in signing him.
According to The Sun, Newcastle was keen on securing a loan deal for Maguire, but Manchester United is not willing to strengthen a top-four rival without financial compensation.
Therefore, if Newcastle wants to pursue the transfer, they will have to pay a substantial transfer fee.
Maguire reportedly wishes to stay at Manchester United this summer and fight for a more prominent role in Erik ten Hag’s plans.
However, the club is looking to generate funds through player sales to compete for other targets, such as Napoli’s Kim Min-jae.
Aston Villa has also expressed interest in loaning Maguire to enhance their squad following European qualification.
Tottenham, on the other hand, has not yet made a move for the experienced 30-year-old defender. Gareth Southgate, the England national team manager, has cautioned Maguire that he needs regular playing time to secure his place in the national team.
