On the final day of the season, Paris St-Germain, the Ligue 1 champions, suffered a 3-2 defeat against mid-table Clermont as Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos played their last games for the club.
PSG took a 2-0 lead through a header from Ramos, set up by Vitinha’s cross, and a penalty from Kylian Mbappe.
However, Clermont fought back and managed to equalize through goals from Johan Gastien and Mehdi Zeffane.
Grejohn Kyei, who had a goal disallowed by the video assistant referee and missed a penalty, scored the winner for Clermont.
Messi also received some boos from the fans before kick-off and missed a few chances to add to his 32 goals in 75 games for PSG.
Both Messi and Ramos, the ex-Real Madrid defender, are leaving the club this summer as their contracts have expired.
Messi has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal or Major League Soccer side Inter Miami.
Meanwhile, Auxerre were relegated after losing 3-1 to Lens at home while Nantes, who began the day in the bottom four survived by a Ignatius Ganago’s goal in a 1-0 victory over Angers.
With a 2-1 victory at Brest, Rennes usurped Lille to take over fourth place and a position in the Europa League.
Following their 1-1 draw at Troyes, Lille will now have to compete in the Conference League.
Monaco also missed out on European Qualification after a 2-1 Defeat to Toulouse.
