The governing body for football referees, PGMOL, has announced that it will conduct an investigation following an incident involving Liverpool’s Andy Robertson and assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis.
During the first half of the match against Arsenal, Robertson approached Hatzidakis in a heated manner, and it appeared that the official raised an elbow that made contact with Robertson’s chin.
This caused a furious reaction from the Liverpool player, who, along with his teammates, approached the referee, Paul Tierney. Robertson was subsequently booked by Tierney.
However, if the incident is further investigated, Robertson could be in trouble, as Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic is currently serving an eight-game ban for pushing referee Chris Kavanagh in their FA Cup loss against Manchester United on 19 March.
In response to the incident, PGMOL issued a statement saying that it was “aware of an incident involving assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis and Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson at half-time during the Liverpool v Arsenal fixture at Anfield” and that it would “review the matter in full.”
