Rayo Vallecano celebrated a memorable victory as they inflicted only the third La Liga defeat of the season on leaders Barcelona in a 2-1 win.
Alvaro Garcia and Fran Garcia scored for the mid-table hosts, putting them in a commanding position. Robert Lewandowski scored a late consolation goal for Barcelona.
Despite the loss, Barcelona remains on track to win their first La Liga title since 2018-19. They are currently 11 points ahead of their nearest rivals, Real Madrid, with only eight matches left to play.
Next, Barcelona will host fifth-placed Real Betis on Saturda.
Vallecano took the lead through Garcia’s shot across Marc-Andre ter Stegen, before Garcia doubled their advantage. Lewandowski’s goal, his 18th of the season, came late in the game after Franck Kessie’s shot was blocked.
This defeat was Barcelona’s first in La Liga since February 26, and they have won only one of their previous four league matches.
