Freiburg overcame a deficit to defeat Bayern Munich In the quarterfinals of the German Cup, thanks to a late chance from Lucas Hoeler.
Dayot Upamecano’s header gave Bayern the advantage, but Nicolas Hoefler leveled up eight minutes later. After Jamal Musiala was handled in the box, Hoeler scored from the penalty spot to secure Freiburg’s position in the semifinals.

After falling behind Dortmund in the Bundesliga standings, the Munich side fired manager Julian Nagelsmann and brought in Tuchel, who had previously led their rivals from 2015 to 2017.
Hoefler’s rocket from outside the box after Kingsley Coman mishandled a clearance brought Freiburg level, and Hoeler’s late penalty kick secured a shocking victory. Tuchel’s team dominated the cup match for the majority of the time.
Bayern have now missed out on the last four for the third year in a row, while Freiburg are in their second consecutive Semi Final having lost the finals last year to RB Leipzig
Elsewhere With a 2-0 victory over Union Berlin, Randal Kolo Muani struck twice in as many minutes to guarantee Eintracht Frankfurt’s advancement in the cup.
